Ben A. Davis is an American art critic who is known for his writing on politics, economics, and contemporary art, and for his book ''9.5 Theses on Art and Class'' (2013). In 2022, Haymarket Books published his second book, ''Art in the After-Culture: Capitalist Crisis and Cultural Strategy''. Like ''9.5 Theses on Art and Class'', ''Art in the After-Culture'' is a collection of his cultural essays. Career Davis was executive editor of the art news website Artinfo from 2010 to 2013, and before that associate editor of Artnet, Artnet Magazine from 2005 to 2010. He is currently the National Art Critic for the art news website Artnet News. Ben Jerome Davis (born December 26, 1972) is an American former professional basketball player who played with the NBA's Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks. Davis attended Oak Hill Academy, University of Kansas, the University of Florida, Hutchinson Community College, and the University of Arizona and played collegiately at all, except for Florida. In his one season at Hutchinson in 1994, Davis led team to the NJCAA championship. Davis was selected 43rd overall in the 1996 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns but played in the CBA in 1996–97 instead. As well as playing with the Suns and the New York Knicks during his short NBA career, Davis was also signed by the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets, but never played a game for either. Ben Davis is an apple cultivar. Typical size: width 74-80 mm, height 63-75 mm, stalk 19-23 mm. History During the 19th century and early 20th century it was a popular commercial apple due to the ruggedness and keeping qualities of the fruit. As packing and transportation techniques improved, the cultivar fell out of favor, replaced by others considered to have better flavor. It was known to fruit growers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a "mortgage lifter" because it was a reliable producer and the fruit would not drop from the trees until very late in the season. Stark Nurseries held a competition in 1892 to find an apple to replace the Ben Davis apple. Ben Davis High School (BDHS) is a three-year high school in Indianapolis, Indiana. History Ben Davis was first established in 1892. The current school building was constructed in 1965. The school underwent extensive construction and renovation from 1998 to 2002 and experienced another addition of more classrooms which was completed prior to the 2007/2008 school year. With the newly opened Ninth Grade Center, the school boasts over under one continuous roof. The school is named for the 1880s Vandalia Railroad executive Benjamin Davis.
